March 1 Meeting

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 21 members and no guest.  Dan Yuhas reported he has been receiving sponsors for the golf outing. Larry Bunting, who is the Sight and Sound Chairman this year, started passing out booklets to sell. He would like all members to sell 3 booklets and they are $10 each for 3 tickets. Margaret McCurdy was the big $175 winner on the monthly calendar drawing for February. Tail Twister Larry Werline fined Craig Drone, James Grohne, Tom Gallagher, and Joe Brockamp. Jim Strange from the Lions of Illinois Foundation conducted the ceremony for new member inductees. The new members are Susan Wilham, Larry Bapst, Bob Cockrell and Bridget Moore. Jim Strange also spoke to us about Lions of Illinois Foundation and the various programs they support. Jim also presented two chevrons to the club for the support in Candy Day sales. The 50/0 was won by Bridget Moore.

 
March 8 Meeting
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 21 members and no guest. President Limey Nargelenas advised the club that the National Federation of the Blind of Illinois requested a grant from us for $5,000. After discussion, the club declined this request due to a lack of funds and our interest in helping local organizations that help the visually impaired. Larry Bunting once again handed out Sight & Sound raffle tickets. Tail Twister Larry Werline fined Dean Paisley, Delmar Buske, Mickey McDaniel, and Steve Frankenstein. Lion of the Day was Dean Paisley who introduced our speaker David Edwards. David is with Edwards Group LLC and talked to the club about estate planning. The 50/50 was won by Jim Grohne in abstentia.
 
March 15 Meeting
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 19 members and no guest.  The club was advised that Dr. Paul Anthony’s wife Theresa had double knee replacement and is doing well. We wish her a quick recovery. President Limey Nargelenas announced that the Lions Foundation of Illinois is having a Walk for Sight event on June 5th in Paris, Illinois.  Tail Twister Larry Werline fined Mickey McDaniel, Helen Hellner, Larry Bunting, Joe Brockamp, Jerry Curry, Rita Werline and the scheduled speaker Dale Phillips. Lion of the Day was Dean Paisley who introduced our speaker Dale Phillips. Dale is the Superintendent of the Lincoln Home National Historical Site. Dale talked to us about the 100th Anniversary of the National Park Service.
 
March 22 Meeting
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 18 members and one guest. The guest was Miranda Potter photographer for the Springfield Business Journal. Miranda was at our meeting to take pictures for the magazine. President Limey Nargelenas received a letter from a lady requesting that we help her pay for a new hearing aid. Dean Paisley agreed to contact her and assess her need. Dan Yuhas, golf committee chairman, announced that there will be a golf committee meeting at his home on April 10th at 6:00 P.M.. Everyone is invited who wants to help on the committee. Larry Bunting announced that the Sight and Sound ticket sales and going well with 41 books already sold. Tail Twister Larry Werline fined Dan Yuhas, Mickey McDaniel, Mike Fishel, Bill Maxey, Helen Hellner, Craig Drone, Limey Nargelenas, and Tom Gallagher. Lion of the Day was Dean Paisley who introduced our speaker Matt Briggs. Matt is the head pro at Piper Glen Golf Club. Matt talked to us about what improvements are being made at the golf course and what he expects to happen this year. Dan Yuhas won the 50/50 drawing.
 
March 29 Meeting
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 14 members and two guests. The guests were Dean Paisley and Mickey McDaniel’s grandsons Preston & Ty. Vice President Larry Bunting presided over the meeting due to vacationing President Nargelenas absence. It was announced that the club received two more sponsors and another foursome for the Lion’s golf outing. Larry Bunting is still selling Sight and Sound tickets. Please get those that you have sold to Larry as soon as possible. We have until the end of April to finish selling them. Ron Wenger served as Tail Twister due to the absence of Larry Werline. Ron fined Dr. Paul Anthony, Steve Frankenstein, Dean Paisley, Mike Fishel, Craig Drone,  and Joe Brockamp. Lion of the Day was Dean Paisley who introduced himself as speaker. Dean talked to us about various events that happened to him as an FBI agent.
