January 6, 2015 Meeting
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 22 members and no guests. It was noted that we have a large group of Lions vacationing in the warm weather in Florida. Limey Nargelenas, who is chairman of the Sight & Sound, passed out booklets for fellow Lions to sell. Limey would like everyone to sell 3 booklets. Tail Twister Mark Cullen fined Ron Wenger and Bob Urbance. Dale Diamond announced the January winners for the Calendar Raffle and Kim Maisch was the $100 winner. Lion of the Day was Larry Bunting and introduced our speaker District Governor Bill Hazelhorst. Bill showed us a cd that explained the international goal of the Lions. Bill also presented Dale Diamond with his 40 year pin, Paul Anthony with his 35 year pin and Tom Gallagher with his 25 year pin. The 50/50 was won by Steve Frankenstein.
January 13, 2015 Meeting
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 17 members and no guests present. Limey Nargelenas acted as President due to the absence of President Chris Walcher. We would like to welcome back Craig Drone. Limey noted that the Mary Bryant Home is asking for donations if our fellow Lions would want to make a personal donation. Larry Bunting advised the club that our Lion’s club has been approved to help man the gates at the Sangamon County Fair from June 17-21. We will be paid a fee for the donation of man hours and this will be one of our fundraisers. Ron Wenger acted as the Tail Twister in the absence of Mark Cullen & Jim Grohne. Fines were levied on Barry Schillinger, Rita Werline, Craig Drone, Jerry Gardner and Steve Frankenstein. Lion of the Day was Larry Bunting who introduced our speaker Major Steve Woodard of the Salvation Army. Steve spoke to us about the different programs the Salvation Army sponsors and what their mission is in Springfield. The 50/50 was won by Joe Brockamp.
January 20, 2015 Meeting
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 25 members and one guest. The guest was Barry Schillinger’s coworker Larry Robinson. President Walcher presented Nick Appelbaum with his 25 year Lions pin. Dr. Paul Anthony informed the club that he is working on a tri-fold pamphlet to hand out to potential new Lions. It was announced that the next director’s meeting will be held at Hunan Restaurant on January 29th at 12:00. Tail Twister Mark Cullen fined Dr. Paul Anthony, Jerry Curry, Chris Walcher, Larry Werline and Mickey Monroe. Mike Fishel and James Grohne were challenged to bring a guest to the next meeting. Lion of the Day was Larry Bunting who introduced our speakers. Our speakers were Jason Nolan and Wendy White-Mitter from Saving Sight. They both talked about their programs and how they help with corneal transplants and youth vision screening. The 50/50 was won by Limey Nargelenas.
January 27, 2015 Meeting
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 26 members and two guests present. The guests were Rita Werline’s sister Sheila and Barry Schillinger’s friend Tim Volmer. Limey Nargelenas acted as President due to the absence of President Chris Walcher. Dale Diamond gave us an update on the calendar sales that have
exceeded 800 as of today. Jack Schoonover has been presented his Lion’s 25 year pin. Tail Twister Mark Cullen took it easy on everyone and didn’t fine anyone except Jim Grohne for not bringing a guest. Mark Cullen challenged Joe Brockamp and Mark Cullen to bring a guest next week. It was announced that the
official merger of our district into 1M will be as of 7-1-15. Limey Nargelenas served as Lion of the Day and introduced our speaker Lion Jack Schoonover. Jack talked about his summer heart attack and how lucky he was to still be with us. The 50/50 was won by Mike Fishel.
