September 2, 2014

 

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 26 members and no guests.  It was announced that Ken Parker was in a bad car wreck and has severe injuries.  We hope you all keep Ken in your thoughts and prayers.  Dale Diamond drew the calendar raffle winners for September and the big winner was Denene Smith.  President Walcher announced that Jamie Leslie has agreed to chair the Christmas Party again this year.  It was also announced that the Directors meeting will be held again this month on the 25th at Hy-Vee. Tail Twister Mark Cullen fined Steve Frankenstein, Bill Hickerson, Larry Werline, Phil Brooks and Mike Fishel. The Lion of the Day was Marne Fauser who introduced our speaker Kelly Thompson.  Kelly is the Executive Director of the Springfield Ronald McDonald House.  Kelly spoke about what their mission is and how they help families in need that have young children in the hospital.  The 50/50 was won by Rachel Schroeder.

 

September 9, 2014

 

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 25 members and no guest attending.  President Walcher welcomed back Jack Schoonover and Doug Skinner.  It was also announced with a heavy heart that our very own Ken Parker passed away last week.  Our thoughts and prayers go out to his family.  On a happier note, Rachel Schroeder had her baby last week.  Dale Diamond passed out the fund raising calendars to the members that were present and will get calendars to those members that don’t regularly attend the meetings. Larry Werline and Dean Paisley were presented silver pins for new member recruitment.  The club approved renaming our golf outing to The Ken Parker Memorial Lions Golf Outing. Joyce Parker donated money given at Ken Parker’s funeral to the club.  Tail Twister Jim Grohne fined Steve Frankenstein, Chris Walcher, Marne Fauser, Dave Moreland, and Dr. Paul Anthony.  Lion of the Day was Marne Fauser who introduced our speaker Ron Riggle.  Ron is the athletic director and baseball coach at Lincoln Land Community College.  Ron spoke about Lincoln Land and his sport teams.  The 50/50 was won by Dale Diamond.

 
September 16, 2014
 
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 25 members and 4 guests. The guests were Mickey McDaniels & Dean Paisley’s grandchildren Preston and Raegen and Maurne Fauser’s children Carson and Madisyn.  Dale Diamond gave us an update on calendar sales.  Requests were sent out for help on the Star Party and Candy Day.  Tail Twister fined Dave Milner, Chris Walcher, Paul Anthony, Mark Cullen and Mickey McDaniel.  Maurne Fauser was the Lion of the Day and introduced our speaker Chad Marschik who is the owner and personal trainer at Body Symmetry.  Chad spoke to us about his business and how to keep in shape.  The 50/50 was won by Dan Yuhas.
 
September 23, 2014
 
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 27 members and two guests.  The guests were Marne Fauser’s daughter Madisyn and Evelyn Thomas’ friend Linda.  President Walcher reported the club received thank you notes from Rod Moore and Reanna Roberts for sponsoring their time spent at CGTI.  Membership Chair Dr. Paul Anthony reported he met an ex-Lion from Bollingbrook and he is interested in our club.  Both Candy Day Chair Bill Maxey and Star Party Chair Jerry Curry were asking for more volunteers.  Tail Twister Mark Cullen fined Phil Brooks, Rita Werline, and Doctor Swing.  Lion of the Day was Marne Fauser who introduced our speaker Ed Wojcicki who is a professor in the public administration program at UIS.  Ed co-authored a book with Senator Phillip Rock titles “Nobody Calls Just To Say Hello: Reflections on Twenty-Two Years in the Illinois Senate”.  The 50/50 was won by Helen Hellner.
 
September 30, 2014
 
The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 27 members and four guests. The guests were visiting Lions from Coupeville, WA, Karen Fletcher and David Fish and Jerry Curry’s children Tommy and Kathleen.  Jerry Curry reported that even with a few minor glitches with the food, the Star Party was a success and the weather was great.  Jerry thanked all the volunteers that helped out during the event.  Bill Maxey asked for more volunteers for the Candy Day weekend.  The Annual Steak Fry is coming up on October 14th at the Mozart Club and you should contact Chris Walcher or Joe Brockamp if you are going to attend.  The cost will be $20 with cocktails at 6:00 and dinner at 7:00.  The Mary Bryant Fundraiser is October 4 at Boondocks featuring the cover bank “Pine Mountain Logs”.  Tail Twister Mark Cullen fined himself, Doc Swing and everyone present that hadn’t volunteered for the Star Party. Mitch Murdock’s assignment to find out two things about Doug Skinner revealed Doug takes his family to Disney World every year and he has been married 21 years.  Lion of the Day was Marne Fauser who introduced our speaker Mike Murphy who owns Charlie Parkers Diner.  Mike spoke about the history and other related stories of Charlie Parkers. The 50/50 was won by Mick.
