April 2, 2014

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 24 members and 2 guests.  The guests were Larry Werlines’ wife Rita and Dean Paisley’s friend Mickey McDaniels who was approved for membership in our club.  Dale Diamond informed the club that the board has approved a request from Lighthouse to purchase a wristwatch for Don Achas that is a telephone, alarm, doorbell alert.  Don is blind and deaf and needs the wristwatch alarm for his safety.  Dan Yuhas gave an update to the club on the snow pile at White Oaks Mall contest and deemed it a tie between Larry Werline and Dean Paisley.  Dan also gave us a college basketball bracket update.  Chris Walcher has asked that the Sight & Sound tickets be sold and returned to him soon.  Dale Diamond informed the club the big calendar raffle winner this month was Pete Cottingham.  Tail Twister Dean Paisley fined Mitch Murdock, Ed Cunningham, Steve Frankenstein, Mike Fishel, Craig Drone, and Dale Diamond.  The Lion of the day was Dean Paisley who introduced our speaker Larry Johnson.  Larry is the director of the Illinois State Military Museum.  Larry talked about what the museum has to offer and invited us to come see it as a club.  The 50/50 was won by Limey Nargelenas.

 

April 9, 2014

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 25 members and no guests attending. President Brooks welcomed back Dave Moreland and Gail Day from their winter hiatus.  Ken parker announced that the golf outing is progressing nicely and has been receiving sponsor money.  It was reported that we received 7 high school applicants and 1 college applicant for our scholarships we award every year.  A committee will be formed to review and pick the winners.  Dan Yuhas reported the following winners of the NCAA brackets: 1st- Limey Nargelenas, 2nd- Tom Gallagher, & 3rd- Dale Diamond.  Tail Twister Dean Paisley fined Gail Day.  Lion of the Day was Dean Paisley who introduced our speaker Dean Paisley.  Dean spoke to us about his time investigating the attempted assassination of Governor George Wallace.  The 50/50 was won by Craig Drone.
 

April 15, 2014

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 27 members and no guests.  President Brooks presented Limey Nargelenas with a membership recruiting award.  Steve Frankenstein is running a raffle for the Low Vision Mission.  This raffle will raffle off a Tour Edge 40th Anniversary LIF Putter.  Please see Steve for raffle tickets.  There is a sign- up sheet for workers for the Sight & Sound Fair on June 4th if you can help.  Tail Twister Dean Paisley fined David Rolf & himself.  Lion of the day was Dean Paisley who introduced our speaker Todd Musso.  Todd Musso is with Wrightman-Musso Realty.  Todd talked to us about the Springfield real estate market and current trends.  The 50/50 was won by Tom Gallagher.

 

April 22, 2014

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 31 members and no guests attending. Rita Werline is no longer a guest at our club because she has decided to join.  The club collected 200 pair of glasses at the shred event sponsored by Springfield First last weekend.  Chris Walcher has asked that club members who have Sight & Sound tickets get them to him by April 29th if possible.  Tail Twister Dean Paisley was exceptionally skilled at collecting fines from Ron Wenger, Dale Diamond, Larry Bunting, Limey Nargelenas, Doctor Swing, and Dave Moreland.  The Lion of the Day was Dean Paisley who introduced our speaker Patrick Lam.  Patrick is the executive director of The Villas of Holly Brook.  This is an assisted living facility that opened in Chatham.  He stated they are also currently building Reflections which is a memory care residence next door.  Patrick also gave us a brief history on how he made it from Viet Nam to the United States. The 50/50 was won by Dr. Paul Anthony.
 

April 29, 2014

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 31 members and no guests.  Lion Jerry Curry advised the club that the Evelyn Thomas educational wing is now under construction at the Mary Bryant Home for the Blind.  John Albers advised the club that we have sold 12 rain barrels currently.  Tail Twister Dean Paisley fined himself, Ron Wenger, Tom Gallagher, Jerry Curry, and Jerry Gardner.  Lion of the Day was Dean Paisley who introduced our speaker Dale Phillips.  Dale is the superintendent of the Lincoln Homes National Historic Site which is the only national park in Illinois.  Dale talked to us about the day-to-day working of the Lincoln Historic site and the improvements that will be made.  The 50/50 was won by Jerry Gardner.
