November 5, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 30 members and no guest attending. Phil announced to the club that Lions is trying to get their name out more in the community and has joined with the health department on an internet link. Dale Diamond drew numbers for the November calendar raffle with Phyllis Madlum winning the $100 prize. Dan Yuhas informed the club that we are again decorating hats for the Christmas party and if anyone needs one they should get with Dan. The Tail Twister fined no one this week. District Governor Steve Frankenstein inducted four new members into our club. The new members are Hilary Lucke, Marne Fauser, Joe Gill, and Craig Drone. The 50/50 was won by Tom Gallagher.
 

November 12, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 27 members and two guests. The guests were Dean Paisley’s wife Sue and Bernie Schoenburg from the SJR. We had a special guest speaker Treasurer Dan Rutherford. Dan talked to us about I-Cash which is the state department set up for unclaimed property in Illinois. The Tail Twister Dean Paisley was present but decided not to fine anyone and show his wife his mean side. Lion of the Day was Dr. Paul Anthony who presented our speaker Dr. Karolyn Senica from the Orthopedic Group. Dr. Senica spoke to us about hip and knee replacements. The 50/50 was won by guest Sue Paisley.

 

November 19, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Harvest Restaurant with 35 members and 9 guests attending. The guests were several spouses and friends of fellow Lions who came to hear Governor Edgar speak. President Phil Brooks presided over the meeting. He noted that the Lions were successful in receiving a grant from the State of Illinois for use with the Springfield Health Department. Lion Ken Parker informed us to keep June 17th open for the 2014 Springfield Noon Lions Golf Outing. Tail Twister Dean Paisley was once again lax in his fines and everyone was given a pardon. Lion of the Day was Dr. Paul Anthony who introduced our distinguished speaker Governor Jim Edgar. Governor Edgar spoke about his political career and how government worked best for him. The 50/50 was won by Bill Maxey.
 

November 26, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 29 members and three guests. The guests were Tommy & Kathleen Curry and Emily Evans who won our scholarship last year.  Phil Brooks thanked everyone who attended the ground breaking ceremony last Friday for the Evelyn Thomas addition to the Mary Bryant Home.  Dale Diamond would like everyone to get him their calendar sales money as soon as possible.  Please continue to sell them through the end of the year.  Tail Twister Dean Paisley fined David Rolf, Ken Tupy, and Ed Cunningham.  Lion of the Day was Dr. Paul Anthony who introduced our speaker Carissa Klaas from the Illinois Retina Center.  Dr. Klaas gave a slide presentation on Macular Degeneration.  Bill Maxey won the 50/50 drawing.
