                                      September 3, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 24 members and one guest. The guest was Evelyn Thomas’s friend Linda Lybarger. Dale Diamond announced the monthly winners of the Lions Calendar Fundraiser. Joel Rapaport was the big winner for September. Dale also announced that the 2014 calendars should be ready to distribute in 2 weeks. Tail Twister Dean Paisley fined Doctor Swing and himself this week. Lion of the Day was John Hanlon who introduced our Speaker Yosh Golden. Yosh talked to us about the Japanese World War II relocation centers. Yosh, who was born in the Manzanar Relocation Center in California, talked about her family and the hardships they endured for 3 years. The 50/50 was won by Limey Nargelenas.

 

                                     September 10, 2013                                      

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 15 members and 1 guest attending.  The guest was Dale Diamond’s friend Cal Talbit. Lion Jerry Curry passed around a depiction of the Wall of Light plaque our club recently earned through a donation pledge to the Mary Bryant Home. Lion Jerry Curry also read a letter to the editor out of the paper that Ms. Shari Stahl wrote. Shari, a Vision Itinerant and recipient of  a special IPAD2 from the Springfield Noon Lions to assist a student in need in New Berlin, wrote a very nice thank you to us and praised the club for all that we do. Lion Steve Frankenstein spoke briefly about some details of the grant that has been applied for in conjunction with the County Health Dept. Tail Twister Dean Paisley was kind enough to forgo fining anyone in today’s meeting. The 50/50 was won by Jerry Curry.
 
 

September 17, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 23 members and one guest. The guest was Cal Talbit again and he is a prospective member. Bill Maxey informed the club that Helen Hellner has been feeling under the weather recently and we send her our best wishes. Dale Diamond has been passing out the new calendars for 2014 that we are selling as a fund raiser. Jerry Curry is sending around the sign up sheet for Star Party workers. Please contact Jerry with your availability to work. Stand in Tail Twister Chris Walcher fined Phil Brooks, Dave Moreland and Ron Wenger. Lion of the Day was John Hanlon who introduced our Speaker Peter Wise. Peter talked to us about his upcoming competition in the Ironman Triathlon. Peter talked to us about what it takes to compete in this grueling event and the training he does to prepare. The 50/50 was won by Joe Brockamp.

 
 

September 24, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 17 members and no guest attending. Phil notified everyone that they are trying to get entertainment for the Christmas Party. Sign up sheets for workers for the Star Party October 3, 4 & 5 and Candy Day October 18, 19 & 20 are being circulated. If you have the time, please sign up. Chris Walcher again serves as Tail Twister and fined Steve Frankenstein, Craig Drone, Limey Nargelenas, David Rolf, Larry Bunting, Ed Cunningham & David Milner. Lion of the Day was Dale Diamond who introduced our speaker Bill Hickerson. Doctor Swing spoke to us about Braille and how to read it. He brought several visual aids that help him read & write Braille. The 50/50 was won by Dale Diamond.
