August 6, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 24 members and five guests. The guests were Tommy & Anna Curry (Jerry’s children), Gavin Martin (Limey’s grandson), Dean Paisley’s grandson Canon & Dr. Fee Habtes. Vice President Limey Nargelenas presided over the meeting and did a wonderful job subbing for President Brooks. Limey passed around the monthly speaker signup sheet and welcomes volunteers. Dale Diamond drew the monthly calendar winners and the large winner this month was Evelyn Thomas. Tail Twister Dean Paisley was in rare form and fined absolutely nobody !!!! Lion of the Day was Jerry Curry who introduced our speaker District 1L Governor Stephen Frankenstein. Steve talked about his recent trip to the International Lions Convention in Hamburg, Germany. The 50/50 was won by Tom Gallagher.

 

 

August 13, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 22 members and 3 guests attending. The guests were Tommy Curry (son of Jerry Curry) and Regan & Preston Paisley (grandchildren of Dean Paisley). President Brooks stated that his nephew Lance Brooks placed 25th in the world in the World Games. President Brooks also wanted to remind everyone about the fundraiser hosted by Evelyn Thomas June 20th at Piper Glen. Tail Twister Dean Paisley fined Steve Frankenstein. Dean gave us a good history lesson on the Illinois State Fair. Lion of the Day was Jerry Curry who introduced our speaker Fred Jarosz who is the Director of Development for the Mary Bryant Home. Fred is also a motivational speaker and gave a very good talk to the club. The 50/50 was won by Steve Frankenstein.

 

August 20, 2013

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 20 members and one guest. The guest was Doctor Swing’s sister Patricia Kunz. Bill Maxey announced the Lions Candy Day will be held October 18 & 19. President Brooks announced the Lions Annual Steak Fry will be held September 10th at the Mozart Club. Mike Fishel, Jerry Curry & Joe Brockamp are heading up the dinner that is $20 for members and $10 for guest. Jerry Curry announced that the Star Party will be held October 3, 4 & 5. Sign up sheet for all these events will be circulating so sign up often. Dale Diamond announced that he is beginning the annual calendar sales campaign shortly and expects to sell 1,000 calendars this year. Steve Frankenstein & Phil Brooks are talking to the Springfield Health Department about advertising used glasses donation campaign. Tail Twister Dean Paisley fined Dr. Paul Anthony for his absences, Ron Wenger and himself for forgetting who the Lion’s editor is. Lion of the Day Jerry Curry introduced our speaker Bernie Schoenburg. Bernie is the political writer and columnist from the State Journal Register. Bernie talked about the political races in the area and was very informative. The 50/50 was won by Bill Maxey.

The meeting was held at the Golden Corral with 20 members and 2 guests attending.  The guests were Evelyn Thomas’s friend Linda Lybarger and Lydia Schillinger. President Brooks thanked everyone who helped with the Evelyn Thomas Roast/Reception that raised $35,000 to date for the Mary Bryant Home. Tail Twister Dean paisley fined absolutely nobody today !!  Lion of the day was Jerry Curry who introduced our speaker Andy Dickerson. Andy is a certified personal trainer and owns Basic Fitness of Chatham. Andy spoke about fitness and how important it is for your physical and mental health. The 50/50 was won by Ken Parker
